“Zion” is a piece by Lauryn Hill on the album the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. This entire album is extremely powerful and fantastic, I recommend that you listen to it atleast twice so you can really sink in what Lauryn is singing.
There are many interpretations of Lauryns songs. I feel that she is preaching her thankfulness in herself (and in God) that she has made it this far, which is something I feel we are lacking today. I’m not saying that we are lacking religion, I feel that we are lacking generosity, care, and thankfulness. Do you truly sit down and realize how lucky you are every day, honestly? Do you say “wow, I’m healthy, intelligent, I have a house, a loving family, and I’m free”; do you even realize everyday that these are gifts to be thankful for? Alot of what we do day to day is based around people accepting us or trying to be noticed by others, do you ever open a door for someone just because you want to, not because you want to be recognized as the nice person who opened a door for someone else? I feel that my thoughts can be better stated by the wise Buddah “Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind.”
My humble advice? Give of yourself till there is little left. With every kind gesture, you have inspired someone else to do the same. Although it is exhausting at times to be completely there for others, you will one day receive a wealth of rewards in the relationships and mentoring you have done throughout even a short while. Learn to help others, not because it’s expected but because you truly want to. Do not live for only yourself, you will eventually find that you have a lonely life to live.
I’m sure this post was exhausting for you but these are the thoughts that constantly run through my head. Eventually, being kind becomes a second nature that you can not live without.
Happy Thursday everyone!
So this is a phenomenal piece by Buffy Sainte-Marie. This piece is very moving and was created (in the 60’s) to show the Native Americans perspective on colonization. I really wish everyone could hear this song with his why I am posting it here. There you are “My Country Tis of Thy People You’re Dying”.
”I Gotta Find Peace of Mind”
Here is a phenomenal Video that everyone should watch. Lauryn Hill is a great vocalist who sings from the soul. Lauryn was a vocalist and rapper for the band the Fugees in the 90’s. She went solo (as seen in this video) and she later went off the map. Lauryn has now announced that she will be recording a new studio album!
This is the most powerful live performance I have ever seen and it inspired me to buy my Guitar before entering college. I hope you enjoy this!
P.S Lauryn was also in Sister Act 2 as the bad ass who wanted to be in the choir and ran away to achieve that dream.
“I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ To Die Rag” was created by Country Joe and the Fish to protest the Vietnam war. It’s amazing how powerful this song really is, you can feel the tension and the anger at Woodstock as the camera sweeps through the crowd. People really stood up for what they believed back than, I wish we had the same commitment as a nation today.
We shall start this afternoon with the band YES.
The song that I have posted is “I’ve Seen All Good People” by YES off the Yes Album, 1971. (Great Album!)
YES is one of them most revolutionary bands in Rock and Roll history, yet another English Rock band that has made a difference in the music of today. The band came together in 1968 and still exists (even though there have been plenty of musician changes). YES was influenced by bands such as: The Who, Simon and Garfunkel, and the Beatles. This group has inspired many fantastic bands including Queen and Electric Light Orchestra. I hope you like this selection!
Oh yeah, if you like YES you should check out their live concert performances, they are fantastic and filled with light shows and (sometimes) space ships.
The next song on the album (since all of the songs blended into each other quiet well) is “Love of My Life”. “Love of My Life” was a piece written by Freddie Mercury ( Farrokh Bulsara) with 12 string guitar arrangement by Brian May. I hope you enjoy these two pieces as much as I do. There will be plenty more to come!
